United States Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Monday during a press conference that Israel informed Washington "about a number of operations, [including] ground operations." However, he noted that the US was told those operations would be "limited [and] focused on Hezbollah" infrastructure near the Lebanese border.

He reiterated that the US supports Israel's right to defend itself. Nonetheless, the US still wants to see a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, Miller added.

"It was Hezbollah that started launching attacks on Israel on October 8. Those attacks have continued and are continuing," he remarked.
