Bessent: US will not default on debt if confirmed
Scott Bessent, Donald Trump's nominee for Treasury Secretary, affirmed lawmakers on Thursday that the United States will not default on its debt, should he be confirmed for the role.
In response to Senator Elizabeth Warren's question about eliminating the debt limit, Bessent expressed his support for the president-elect's position, stating that he would back the decision to remove it once in office.
Warren criticized House Republican's plan to raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion in 2025, accusing them of using the plan to "shovel" tax cuts to billionaires, arguing that the move would add over $1 trillion to the national debt over the next four years.
