Russia preparing response to Ukraine's ATACMS strikes
Russian Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday that it is preparing "response actions" after Ukraine carried out two attacks on the Kursk region in Russia using the US-provided ATACMS long-range missiles in the past three days.
According to the ministry, the first attack was conducted on Saturday when Ukraine launched five ATACMS missiles in the area of the Lotaryovka settlement, 37 kilometers northwest of Kursk. The Russian Pantsir air defense missile and gun system managed to destroy three of the US-made missiles, but the radar was damaged after the attack and there were reportedly casualties among the combat crew.
The second attack happened yesterday, as the ministry stated that eight ATACMS long-range missiles were launched on the Kursk-Vostochny airfield. The combat crews reportedly managed to shoot down seven of them using the S-400 SAM system and the Pantsir SAM-PKK system, but one ATACMS missile reached its target, injuring two servicemen and damaging infrastructure facilities.
