Kremlin denies call took place between Putin, Trump
The Kremlin denied reports on Monday about a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump happening after the elections.
Dmitry Peskov, Putin's press secretary, called the reports from media like The Washington Post and Reuters "a clear example of the quality of information being published, even in respected outlets." He stated, "There was no conversation … this is completely untrue, it is pure fiction," he said.
According to RIA, the last known phone call between Putin and Trump occurred in July 2020, before Trump's first presidential term ended. The two leaders discussed international issues, including strategic stability. Further interactions included a joint statement on Nagorno-Karabakh and a telegram from Putin wishing Trump a speedy recovery from COVID-19. Putin also sent holiday greetings to Trump and Biden in 2021, though he ceased sending such messages to Western leaders in recent years.
