Microsoft said to delay AI chip launch to 2026
Microsoft's plan to create its own AI chip, code-named Braga, is experiencing delays of at least six months, pushing its mass production from 2025 to 2026, according to a report by The Information, which cites three people familiar with the matter.
The project, which has taken longer than anticipated, is expected to put the company at a disadvantage compared to Nvidia by the time it reaches the market. According to those involved in its production, the delays are due to unexpected design changes, staffing limitations, and a high turnover rate.
The report arrives during a period of intensified competition in the AI chip-making industry, with both Google and Amazon actively developing their own products. Amazon's Trainium 3 is anticipated to be launched by the end of this year. In parallel, Google's next-generation TPU, named Ironwood, is expected to enter small-scale production by the end of this year, with most of its mass production planned for next one.
