Borrell: Israel has no excuses for rejecting ceasefire with Lebanon
EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called on Israel to accept a ceasefire with Lebanon, during a G7 meeting on Tuesday.
Borrell emphasized there was "no excuse" for not halting the violence as the deal is proposed by France and the US, urging an end to the fighting and loss of life. "Let's hope that today [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's government will approve the ceasefire agreement... No more excuses. No more additional requests. Stop this fighting. Stop killing people," he said.
He also criticized "extremist ministers" in Israel's government, adding, "I heard voices from the extremist ministers of the Israeli government willing to continue the fight, willing to continue the bombing." Earlier, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel's far-right interior security minister, opposed the ceasefire, labeling it a "historical missed opportunity" that would undermine goals in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel's Security Cabinet is set to meet today at 5:30 pm local time to discuss the proposal.
