60 US universities probed for 'antisemitic discrimination'
The United States Education Department informed 60 universities that they're under investigation for "antisemitic discrimination and harassment," NBC News reported.
The department warned the universities of potential consequences should they fail to "fulfill their obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students on campus." The list includes Columbia University, Harvard University, the University of California Berkeley and Yale University. Columbia University had its had $400 million in government grants canceled by the Trump administration days earlier due to "due to the school’s continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students."
Federal immigration agents arrested on Saturday Columbia graduate and Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, a US permanent legal resident who helped organize protests last year. A federal judge then temporarily blocked his deportation until a hearing on Wednesday.
