US opens higher with eyes on key economic updates

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Monday, supported by optimism ahead of key economic updates. Preliminary purchasing managers' index (PMI) readings, expected after the bell, will offer insights into private sector activity. Investors are also looking ahead to the Federal Reserve's rate decision to come on Wednesday. Later in the week, GDP figures on Thursday and Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) data on Friday are expected to shape market sentiment further.

At 9:30 am ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 0.11% or 48 points with Honeywell International Inc. up by 2.33%. The Nasdaq 100 started the session climbing 0.52% as Broadcom Inc. increased 2.86% and the S&P 500 increased 0.27% with Teradyne Inc. jumping 4.99%.

The euro traded 0.07% higher against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, to sell for $1.04909.
