France hints ICC Netanyahu warrant may not be enforced
France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot hinted Wednesday that the country could potentially disregard the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview with Franceinfo radio, Barrot emphasized that while Paris is deeply committed to international justice, the Rome Statute, which established the ICC, includes provisions on immunity for certain leaders. When asked whether France would arrest Netanyahu if he entered French territory, Barrot replied that "it is ultimately up to the judicial authorities to decide."
His comments come after the ICC issued arrest warrants on November 21 for Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military leader Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri.
