WTO considering China's bid for EV panel with EU
The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced on Monday that it is considering China's request to create a dispute panel to discuss the duties the European Union introduced on new battery electric vehicles (BEV) from that country.
In a statement about the Dispute Settlement Body's (DSB) meeting held earlier in the day, the organization said that China insisted that the EU's decision "was not carried out in a manner consistent with the WTO's Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994."
According to the WTO, the EU is "not ready to accept the establishment of a panel" and "strongly maintains that the measures in question are entirely justified and is confident they are in compliance with WTO rules." The bloc also claimed it provided China with all the necessary information at the delegations' previous discussions.
