US initial jobless claims up by 3,000 to 221,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 3,000 to 221,000 in the week ending November 2, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average declined by 9,750 from the previous week's revised average to 227,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending October 26 remained at 1.2%. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment in those seven days rose by 39,000 week-on-week to 1,892,000, its highest level since November 13, 2021. The 4-week moving average grew by 8,500 to 1,875,500.
