US initial jobless claims down by 5,000 to 245,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States reached 245,000 for the week ending June 14, declining by 5,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure, the Department of Labor revealed in its report on Wednesday. The figure was in line with analysts' expectations. Meanwhile, the four-week moving average increased by 4,750 compared to the prior week to stand at 245,500, reaching the highest average since August 19, 2023.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending June 7 came in at 1.3%, unchanged from the week before. The insured unemployed figure for the same week stood at 1,945,000, observing a decrease of 6,000 on a weekly basis. The four-week moving average was up by 13,000 to reach 1,926,250, the highest level for this average since November 20, 2021.
