UK inflation down from 2.2% to 1.7% in September
The United Kingdom's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.7% in September from the same month a year ago, the Office for National Statistics reported on Wednesday. The figure is down from August's inflation rate of 2.2%.
Seven divisions provided negative contributions to the annual inflation rate, with the biggest downward contribution coming from transport, particularly from air fares and motor fuels. On the other hand, the decline in the index was partially offset by an upward contributionfrom food and non-alcoholic beverages.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices were little changed in September, while the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 2.6% year on year and gained 0.1% month on month.
