Trump establishes WH task force for 2026 World Cup
US President Donald Trump signed Friday an executive order establishing a White House task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative aims to coordinate federal efforts as the US prepares to co-host the tournament alongside Canada and Mexico. The task force will focus on security, infrastructure, and logistical planning to support the event.
In the Oval Office with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump said he expects international tensions to enhance the mood of the event. "I think it's going to make it more exciting. Tension is a great thing," he said. Infantino highlighted the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the US this summer, emphasizing its massive economic impact of both events and the sale of 10 million tickets, "like 3 Super Bowls every day for one month."
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem added that the Department of Homeland Security will oversee the event, creating task forces and partnerships across 11 cities.
