When asked by Sky News' Beth Rigby whether he would classify a working person as someone who works but also gets additional income from assets, such as shares or property, United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that "they wouldn't come within my definition."

Starmer's answer suggests he could raise taxes on investors, seeing as how they fall outside his definition of "working people." His government said repeatedly it wouldn't raise taxes on those Starmer considers to be working people.

Starmer said a working person is one that "goes out and earns their living, usually paid in a sort of monthly cheque" but lacks the ability to "write a cheque to get out of difficulties."
