UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Sunday a new agreement "allowing Ukraine to use £1.6 billion from UK export finance to purchase over 5,000 air defense missiles." This will be on top of the £2.2 billion loan announced yesterday.

In a conference following the European's leaders summit in London, Starmer said the missiles will be manufactured in Belfast, creating jobs in the UK defense sector. "This will be vital for protecting critical infrastructure and strengthening Ukraine in securing peace," Starmer emphasized. He underlined that any future peace deal with Russia must be backed by strength, noting that "every nation must contribute to that in the best way."

Starmer outlined allies agreed on following key steps: maintaining military aid and economic pressure on Russia, ensuring Ukraine's sovereignty and security in any lasting peace, boosting Ukraine's defense capabilities to deter future invasions, and developing a coalition to defend Ukraine's peace deal.
