South Korea's acting President Han Duck-soo (pictured) on Tuesday held his first phone call with his American counterpart Donald Trump, marking the first talks between the leaders of these two countries since former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared martial law in December, sending the country into political turmoil.

According to Yonhap, Han and Trump's phone call lasted for 28 minutes. The discussions reportedly included boosting bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the North Korean nuclear issue, and Trump's new tariffs, which included a 25% trade duty on South Korea's goods.

The phone call between the two presidents comes four days after Yoon was officially removed from office following his impeachment, with the country's ruling party accepting the court's decision.
