Moscow's Tagansky Court fined Apple Distribution International LTD 3.6 million rubles ($36,800) over its failure to remove prohibited content, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.

"By a court decision, Apple Distribution International LTD was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation," the court said. According to the court ruling, the owner of Apple did not comply with the order to remove two podcasts containing information "aimed at destabilizing the political situation in the Russian Federation." The fine imposed on the company, however, was 400,000 rubles below the minimum limit.

In July, Apple complied with Russian media supervisor's (Roskomnadzor) order to remove several VPN providers from its app store.
