Japan's Ishiba: US tariffs are 'extremely unfortunate'
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Thursday that he find United States President Donald Trump's recently imposed tariffs "extremely unfortunate" and raised "serious concern" about whether the tariffs are compatible with the trade agreements.
Ishiba claimed he will not hesitate to fly to Washington and directly negotiate with Trump "if necessary," and that he will keep demanding that the US president reconsider his trade duty measures. The prime minister also noted that Japanese companies played a "significant" role in the US economy and claimed that Washington's policies will have a big impact on global trade.
Yesterday, Trump imposed reciprocal levies on all countries, deciding to charge Japan with a 24% tariff on its exports to the US.
