Lebanon expected to respond to ceasefire proposal on Monday
The Lebanese government is expected to provide a response to a proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah presented last week by United States Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson, Lebanese news agency Al-Akhbar reported on Monday, citing unnamed sources.
According to the report, Hezbollah showed "great openness" in approaching the ceasefire proposal. The Iran-backed group authorized Lebanon's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati to negotiate a ceasefire deal with US Special Envoy Amos Hochstein, who is expected to arrive in Beirut soon.
Earlier, AFP reported that the proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire, during which Lebanon should redeploy troops on the southern border.
