Johnson asks Musk to stick to rockets, leave lawmaking
United States House Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed Elon Musk's criticism of the GOP's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," saying Friday on CNBC, "I don't argue with him about how to build rockets, and I wish he wouldn't argue with me about how to craft legislation and pass it."
Johnson called Musk's Thursday posts "surprising and disappointing" and said US President Donald Trump, with whom he was during the episode, also felt let down. The speaker pushed back on Musk's claim that he was behind the Republican victory in November, stressing it was "a whole team effort." Johnson added that despite the tension, he believes the Trump-Musk relationship can recover.
He confirmed he had exchanged texts with Musk during the last day but wouldn't share the contents, calling the billionaire "a friend" and emphasizing that policy differences shouldn't become personal.
