United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' spokesperson stated on Saturday that Guterres condemned the recent Russian attacks on Ukraine, described as the largest since the military conflict began.

"These strikes disrupted the power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, once again underlining the ongoing risks to nuclear safety. The [UN] Secretary-General [Antonio Guterres] is alarmed by this dangerous escalation and the growing number of civilian casualties. Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited under international law and must stop immediately," it was said in a statement.

Moreover, Guterres called for "immediate and unconditional" ceasefire as a first step towards "just, comprehensive and sustainable" peace, within the framework of the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions.
