Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo (pictured right) unveiled on Wednesday after his meeting with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio (pictured left) that his country would increase the acceptance of deportation flights coming from the US by 40%.

During a press conference, Arevalo mentioned that this would apply not only to Guatemalan nationals but also deportees of other nationalities. Meanwhile, the country also agreed to form a task force for border control that would operate along the eastern border, combatting "all forms of transnational crime."

On his part, Rubio shared that Washington will work with Guatemala to further send foreigners to their respective countries after they have been deported to Guatemala.
