Google files complaint against Microsoft in EU
Google LLC filed a complaint with the European Commission on Wednesday claiming that Microsoft Corp.'s cloud platform Azure "restricts" customers from moving their Windows Server software to its competitors or pay "up to five times more" for new licenses. "Microsoft is the only cloud provider to use these tactics, which have significantly harmed European companies and governments," Google claimed, citing research that found they cost EU businesses at least €1 billion a year.
Google added that it "attempted to engage directly with Microsoft" on the issue before deciding to file a complaint. "Our point is a simple one: Restrictive cloud licensing practices hurt companies and impede European competitiveness," the tech giant said.
