European Council President Charles Michel on Friday strongly condemned strikes on United Nations (UN) peacekeepers in Lebanon after the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) claimed that Israeli forces attacked two of its peacekeepers and its headquarters.

"An attack against a UN peace mission is not responsible, is not acceptable and that's why we call on Israel and we call on all sides to fully respect international humanitarian law," Michel told AFP.

Previously, Canada also condemned the attack and urged protection for peacekeepers and humanitarian workers in Lebanon.
