China plans to send a high-level delegation to the inauguration of United States President-elect Donald Trump instead of President Xi Jinping, CNN reported, citing sources.

Trump extended a personal invitation to Xi through his aides, but officials have yet to confirm whether Xi will attend.

Xi congratulated Trump shortly after his win and the two leaders have held discussions on stabilizing relations. However, tensions remain over trade, with Trump threatening tariffs on Chinese imports and Xi cautioning against a "trade war."
