Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced its opposition to United States President Joe Biden's decision to authorize a $571 million military assistance package to Taiwan, warning Washington that arming Taiwan is "like playing with fire and will get the US burned."

"China urges the US to immediately stop arming Taiwan and stop the dangerous moves that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. We will take all measures necessary to firmly defend national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

In addition to the $571 million defense aid to Taiwan, the US State Department approved an additional $295 million worth of arms sales.
