The United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Rostin Behnam will step down from his post on January 20, the day when President-elect Donald Trump is expected to be inaugurated, the Financial Times reported citing an interview with the government official.

In the interview, Behnam expressed pressing concerns over the regulatory gaps in the burgeoning digital asset market. Highlighting the rapid growth in demand for tokens like Bitcoin, Behnam emphasized the need to address these shortcomings, stating the agency is "well-positioned to be a spot regulator for digital commodity assets."

The chairman initially oversaw the lawsuit against crypto exchange Binance, which later led to its settlement. Trump previously nominated Paul Atkins to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), meanwhile, the successor to Behnam has yet to be announced.
