Bolsonaro may approach Trump to contest US tariff
Allies of Jair Bolsonaro revealed that the former Brazilian president is considering appealing directly to the White House to reverse the 50% tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on Brazilian exports, CNN reported on Thursday.
The move is seen as a strategic effort to deflect blame from his son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, whose actions in Washington have been linked to the penalty. Supporters argue this approach could showcase Bolsonaro's political leadership while challenging President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's handling of US relations.
Besides, Bolsonaro's inner circle claims Trump saw Brazil's hosting of the BRICS summit as a provocation, prompting the tariff. A direct call from Bolsonaro to Trump, possibly brokered by Eduardo, is under discussion.
