A poll conducted for the Le Point newspaper and published on Thursday showed that 54% of French respondents want President Emmanuel Macron to resign following a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Michel Barnier on Wednesday. Macron appointed Barnier in September to lead a minority center-right government after a legislative election in which Macron's coalition suffered the loss of 86 seats. The government was forced to lean on the far-right National Rally for the legislative majority.

39% of respondents said the vote of no confidence "stems from a poor initial choice" by Macron to appoint Barnier as prime minister, although only 13% blame Barnier himself. 40% of French people said there is no "viable solution" to the current crisis. According to French law, the next legislative election cannot be called before June 2025.
