Wrongly deported man arrested upon return to US
Mistakenly deported Salvadoran citizen Kilmar Abrego Garcia was detained when he returned to the United States and will be prosecuted on charges of allegedly moving unauthorized immigrants within the country, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Friday.
"Abrego Garcia has landed in the United States to face justice. He will face very serious charges. Upon completion of his sentence, we anticipate he will be returned to his home country of El Salvador ... The grand jury found that over the past nine years, Abrego Garcia has played a significant role in an alien smuggling ring," Bondi said in a press conference.
The Maryland local, who was erroneously sent back to El Salvador in March, faces two charges: plotting to illegally transport undocumented individuals for profit and the actual illegal transportation of undocumented individuals for profit, court records showed.
