WEEKLY PREVIEW: Key inflation data, G7 summit in focus
The week ahead will bring important reports on May inflation in China, the United States, and Germany, with the US annual figure expected to increase from 2.3% in April. In addition, investors will look out for the April industrial production releases for the euro area and the United Kingdom, as well as the US consumer confidence data for June.
The main geopolitical event of the week will be the G7 Leaders' Summit, which starts on June 15. Hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, it will reunite heads of state from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US and the European Union, with other guests including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the newly elected South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. The war in Ukraine will likely be one of the main topics, with Zelensky hoping to meet with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines. Trump's tariffs and their impact on the global economy will also be hotly debated.
