The United States Treasury Department on Friday imposed sanctions on a China-based company suspected of being responsible for the hacking of "critical" American infrastructure.

Integrity Technology Group Incorporated, a company that Washington believes to be linked to China's Ministry of State Security, is accused of acting under Beijing's direction to conduct cyberattacks targeting American and international corporations, universities, government agencies, telecom providers, and media organizations.

On September 18, the US Department of Justice announced a court-authorized operation to dismantle a botnet of over 200,000 compromised consumer devices worldwide, including in the US, all infected by Integrity Technology Group.
