The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is planning to add Greenland to the list of territories overseen by the Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) to boost the country's presence near the island amid President Donald Trump's intention to annex it, Politico reported.

"From the perspective of geography, the move makes some sense," the source told the publication. "From a political perspective, however, this clearly is going to worry Europe," hinting at Denmark's rejection of Trump's claim.

USNORTHCOM is tasked with protecting the country's territory and national interests in the continental US, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
