UK slaps Russia with largest sanctions since 2022
The United Kingdom's government announced on Monday a new sanctions package against Russia, the largest since the beginning of Russian invasion on Ukraine in 2022.
The new restrictions target Russian military supply chains, including entities in third countries, and Russian entities and individuals who used their businesses to provide advanced European technology to Moscow. In addition, the UK government added North Korean Defense Minister No Kwang Chol and other North Korean generals and senior officials who facilitated the deployment of 11,000 North Korean troops to Russia to the sanctions list.
"Every military supply line disrupted, every rouble blocked, and every enabler of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's aggression exposed is a step towards a just and lasting peace, and towards security and prosperity in the UK as a part of this government’s Plan for Change," British Foreign Secretary David Lammy commented.
