Consumer confidence in the United Kingdom declined in January to its lowest point in more than a year, the latest GfK survey published on Friday showed.

The index decreased by five points in January, reaching a negative 22 points.

Neil Bellamy, GfK's consumer insights director, noted that "these figures underline that consumers are losing confidence in the UK’s economic prospects," the Financial Times reported.
