Trump tells Abbas in call he will work to end war
United States President-elect Donald Trump had a phone call with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday and told him he will "work to end the war," expressing his readiness to collaborate, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.
According to the report, Abbas congratulated Trump on his victory in the US election, expressing his willingness to work with the newly-elected president on achieving "just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy." Trump confirmed that he is also ready to collaborate with Abbas and "other relevant parties in the region" in order to achieve peace in the Middle East region.
Abbas congratulated Trump on his victory already on Tuesday, when he expressed his optimism about Trump's support of "the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people." Trump reportedly paid attention to which world leaders would reach out to him after the election, noting the timing and loyalty.
