Trump names ex-Senator David Perdue as new China envoy
Former Georgia Senator David Perdue was nominated as the new United States ambassador to China, President-elect Donald Trump announced in a post on TruthSocial.
"As a Fortune 500 CEO, who had a 40-year International business career, and served in the U.S. Senate, David brings valuable expertise to help build our relationship with China. He has lived in Singapore and Hong Kong, and worked in Asia and China for much of his career," wrote Trump. He stated that Purdue will help him establish a "productive working relationship with China’s leaders" and maintain peace in the region.
Perdue attempted to secure the Republican nomination for governor in the 2022 election in Georgia but lost to incumbent Republican Governor Brian Kemp. If confirmed by the Senate, Perdue will succeed R. Nicholas Burns as the 14th US envoy to China.
