United States President Donald Trump reafifrmed that the US will impose reciprocal tariffs on countries with high tariffs on American products, including the European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico and Canada.

Trump joked about his decision to implement the tariffs on April 2 instead of April 1, saying he didn't want it to be mistaken for an April Fools' prank. He also mentioned being superstitious, suggesting April 1 was not the right day for a major policy change. "This one day cost us a lot of money," Trump said jokingly.

He criticized these nations for their unfair trade policies, highlighting that India's tariffs exceed 100% on average and South Korea’s are four times higher than US rates.
