Trump: Tariffs making us rich, no shift after Meloni talk
During a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, US President Donald Trump rejected any suggestion that their meeting had prompted a policy shift on tariffs. "Tariffs are making us rich," he insisted, highlighting the alleged economic benefit of new levies on cars, steel, and countries tied to fentanyl inflows.
Trump emphasized that his tariffs on China alone had brought in over $700 billion and claimed his administration was now collecting "billions" while the press conference was underway.
However, recent figures from US Customs and Border Protection contradicted Trump's claims.
