Trudeau: Canada to react if Trump imposes tariffs
Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted on Tuesday his country will respond if United States President Donald Trump introduces the much talked-about tariffs on some of its exports.
Speaking at a press conference in Montebello, Quebec, Trudeau described Trump as a "skilled negotiator" vying to keep the other side "off-balance." He warned that the US's "Golden Age" will "require Canadian resources," and voiced his support for a retaliation in form of dollar-for-dollar tariffs. Trudeau added that his government has already moved to tackle the concerns about the border that Trump raised.
Trudeau's comments came after Trump announced his administration is is "thinking in terms" of imposing 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods on February 1.
