Chinese social media app TikTok announced it will shut its services in the United States on Sunday if the administration of President Joe Biden does not take action to assure "service providers that are integral to maintaining TikTok's availability" in the country, such as Apple and Google.

"Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement, unfortunately TikTok will be forced to go dark on January 19," TikTok stated, pointing out that, so far, the White House and the Department of Justice have "failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance" to service providers.

The announcement comes after the US Supreme Court upheld the decision to ban the app unless its Chinese owner ByteDance sells it to an American company. Meanwhile, incoming President-elect Donald Trump is said to be considering an executive order to keep the app running in the country once he takes over from Biden.
