T-Mobile, Starlink launch satellite texting test
T-Mobile announced on Sunday that it has launched its satellite messaging beta test, enabled by SpaceX's Starlink, for free until July, aiming to expand connectivity and reach so-called mobile "dead zones" across the United States.
The service will also be available to non-T-Mobile users, including AT&T and Verizon customers. Once the beta period ends in July, the feature will be a part of T-Mobile's premium Go5G Next plan, while those without that specific plan will be able to add the service for $15 a month. For non-T-Mobile customers, the feature will cost $20 per month after its commercial launch.
T-Mobile said that in its mission to end "dead zones," 500,000 square miles in the US which are not covered by any wireless company, will be able to stay connected.
