Small plane crashes in California, 1 person dead
A small Vans RV-10 airplane crashed in Simi Valley, California, damaging two homes and catching fire, according to the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The only occupant of the aircraft was an unidentified pilot, who died in the crash, according to Ventura County Fire Department Public Information Officer Andrew Dowd. He added that about 40 firefighters were sent to extinguish the fire. The damaged houses were occupied at the moment of the crash, however, the people inside were unhurt.
The plane took off from William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster and was heading toward Camarillo Airport, according to the FAA. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation and work alongside the FAA.
