Scholz doesn't want post-election divisions like in US
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Friday that he doesn't want to see "deep divisions" in his country after the snap election like the ones he sees happening in the United States after the presidential election.
"We are seeing it right now in the USA. Opposing political ideas have created deep divisions throughout society. Friendships and families have been torn apart. I do not want that to happen here in Germany. I am fighting to ensure that we all remain united as a country," Scholz stated, urging for "honesty and respect" in the election campaign, "even among political opponents."
The German chancellor also outlined the projects that he wants to focus on in the future. He listed lowering the income tax, raising the child benefit and strengthening the Federal Constitutional Court against the "threats from extremists and populists," noting that these are "manageable and broadly agreeable projects, but they will make a difference."
