Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the number of countries involved in wars "outside of their borders" rose to a level "not seen since 1945" and the end of World War Two.

Addressing the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Sanchez noted the number of conflicts in the world is "growing," adding that the violence he said can be observed in the world at the moment is "a symptom of a global illness."

He also described the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as Putin waging war not only against the Ukrainian people but "also against the whole of the international community." Sanchez expressed support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's peace formula and invited more countries to participate in a new peace summit dedicated to rebuilding the war-torn country. At the same time, Sanchez condemned the deaths of "innocent civilians" in Lebanon and called for de-escalation.
