Qatari PM says jet offer for US would be dropped if illegal
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Emir Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani (pictured) (pictured) told CNN that Doha would not proceed with its offer of a luxury jet to United States Donald Trump if the deal were found to be illegal.
He described the plan to transfer a Boeing 747-8 as a "government-to-government transaction" meant for potential use as Air Force One. Al-Thani rejected accusations of foreign influence, saying the deal involves Qatari and American defense ministries and not individuals.
"Why would we buy an influence in the United States?" he asked, adding that Qatar has a history of helping the US during global crises and that such support is based on mutual friendship, not personal favors.
