French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI is launching its first reasoning model Magistral on Tuesday, CEO Arthur Mensch (pictured) told CNBC. He said Magistral will be "competitive" with other similar models, including OpenAI’s o1 and DeepSeek’s R1.

Mensch said the model will be "great" at mathematics and coding and that it will be set apart from rivals by its ability to "reason" in European languages. Mistral released its chatbot app, le Chat, in February.
