Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday she will travel to Washington and meet with United States President Donald Trump on April 17. It is expected that they will discuss the latest US retaliatory duties on goods from the European Union and their impact on Italy.
At the same time, Meloni announced her government's plans to use €14 billion from the EU's post-COVID funds to help shield Italian companies from the negative impact of US levies. A further €11 billion will be allocated from the bloc's cohesion funds to aid the country's economy.
"Our goal is to use the crisis to make our economic system more productive and competitive," Meloni said, according to ANSA.
