Italian inflation down from 1.9% to 1.6% in May

Annual inflation in Italy stood at 1.6% in May, down from 1.9% registered in April, the country's National Statistics Office (INE) shared in its final report on Monday. The figure was slightly lower compared to the preliminary reading.
On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) declined by 0.1%. Meanwhile, core consumer prices, excluding energy and unprocessed food, jumped 1.9% year-over-year.
In May, the Italian harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) decreased by 0.1% month-on-month, and saw a 1.7% growth on an annual level.
